Rita Dobrydnia

Rita A. (Glowacki) Dobrydnia, 91, passed away comfortably at her home on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.

She was the daughter of the late Edward F. Glowacki and Antoinette (Tessie) Brennan, and dear sister of the late Edward F. Glowacki, Jr.

Dear wife of the late Isadore (Jim) Dobrydnia. Beloved mother of James E. Dobrydnia and Kathy Twigg. Loving grandmother to Allen Blumenauer, Jr. and Dean Huston, and great grandmother to Allen (AJ) Blumenauer, III, and Edward (Eddie) Blumenauer.

Rita Dobrydnia answered to many titles i.e., wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother but we would be remiss to not include Aunt. Born on Manayunk’s own Davis Street, developed her early Christian Faith over at St Josaphat’s, then raised her own family on Shurs Lane, the place was the center of her universe.

As the matriarch, Rita loved to entertain, including dinners, pool parties, bike race barbecues, all culminating with Christmas Eve. Our family celebrating the birth of Christ, enjoying a feast of home cooked Polish food, caroling, polkas, while still managing to remember a wrapped gift for every child. A heart-warming tradition her and Jim hosted for well over 30 years.

Rita loved her water, and all things Bobby Vinton, vacationing in Ocean City NJ in September, Lake Ariel in July, or relaxing in her backyard pool/spa on Shurs Ln. She was an active and faithful member of St. Josaphat parish and the Ladies Auxiliary, as well as a member of the Adam Kowalski VFW post. Rita devoted her time and energy organizing fundraisers, dinners, and other activities supporting the Roxborough and Veteran community, also collecting donations and charitable contributions to distribute Christmas gifts to those at the VA Medical Center for years.

Towards the end, Rita wanted nothing more than to leave this world from her own home of 65 years, a promise made, and a promise kept by special family, and extraordinary friends.
