Richard Gipson

Philadelphia

Richard “Richie” Gipson, born February 26, 1983, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on May 14, 2026.

Richie is now reunited in Heaven with his brother, Michael; his grandparents, William and Ellen; his uncles, Billy and Steven; his aunt Joanne; and his cousins Stephanie, Daniel, Patrick, Aiden, and Stephen.

He was the beloved husband and will be sadly missed by his devoted wife Heather. Richie will also be profoundly missed by his parents, Mary and Michael Wolfenden, and by his cherished son, Richard Jr. “Little Richie”, whom he loved deeply.

Richie will be deeply missed by his siblings: Bernadette, Tara, Timothy (Jeannine), Jeffrey, Harold, and Gregory (Allen). His loving grandparents, Howard and Ida Gwin, will forever hold him close in their hearts. Uncle Richie will also be greatly missed by Hayleigh, Nevaeh, Jeffrey, Lacie, Teagan, Addison, Timothy, Gabriel, Rocco, Mayah, and Mikaylah. Richie is survived by his aunts and uncles: Ellen, Judy (Chris), Len (Allison), Joe, Steve (Laurie), Jim (Teresa), Brian, and Scott, along with many cousins and friends who loved him dearly.

Richie had many friends who loved him for his kind heart and loyalty. Called lovingly by names like Big Daddy, White Iverson, Jordan-but-White, and Man, Richie had a larger-than-life personality and presence. His spirit, humor, and dunking ability will forever be his legacy. A lover of all Philly sports, especially the Philadelphia 76ers (except for the obsession with Barry Bonds and Ken Griffey Jr.) Richie enjoyed growing up in Bridesburg, shooting hoops at Bridesburg and Frankford Valley Playgrounds, playing XBOX and cheering on family and teammates. His family finds comfort envisioning him in Heaven, talking trash and pulling crossovers, surrounded by everyone lucky enough to see him again.

Interment and funeral services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richie’s memory to a charity of your choice.
