Mary J. Gallagher

Mary J. Gallagher, 82, passed away on January 1, 2026. Devoted wife of 59 years to James P. Gallagher, Sr. Dear daughter of the late James McHugh and Mary McHugh (nee Quinn).

Beloved mother of James P. Gallagher Jr. (Jacqueline), Maureen P. Gallagher and Megan M. Lawler (Michael). Sadly missed by her grandchildren Patrick, Allyson and Jack Gallagher, and Liam, Gabriel and Bridgid Lawler. Mary is the sister of Christopher McHugh (the late Phyllis), and the late James McHugh, Patricia McHugh, Kathleen McHugh and the Hon. Michael McHugh (Hon. Elizabeth Anne McHugh Casey). Also missed by many nieces, nephews and their families. Mary is the sister-in-law of Marjorie McFeeley. Born and raised in the Swampoodle section of North Philadelphia where she resided until she married the love of her life, Jim. Jim and Mary moved to the Mayfair section where they raised their family and spent many active years involved in numerous community activities, including the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division #39. Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, January 10, 2026 beginning at 9 AM at St. Matthew's Church, 3000 Cottman Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19149. Funeral Mass 10:30 AM. Int. will take place at a later date at Washington Crossing National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Mary's memory to the Fox Chase Cancer Center
