Marie Antoinette Zapisek (nee Ominski), 77, widow of Walter Zapisek, died May 23, 2025.
Marie was sharp-minded, iron-willed, highly expressive, and fiercely independent. An unstoppable force, she was heroic and inspiring. She touched countless lives with her brilliant mind and insightful, endearing personality.
In her 30s, Marie graduated with her BSN and earned numerous honors and awards. She was passionate about her work and found her calling as a geriatric psychiatric nurse at Friends Hospital. Marie was a lover of classic movies, history and war documentaries, and Japanese Grand Sumo. She was an avid reader, and her favorite book was All Quiet on the Western Front. Prior to her husband’s death, she and Walt enjoyed traveling in their RV and spending time with their beloved dalmatians and cats.
Marie is survived by three brothers: Joe (Dolores), John (Joanne), and Dan (Joan), her goddaughter Sharon, and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both parents: Joseph Ominski and Anne Ominski (nee Larkin) and four sisters: Anna, Judy, Suzy, and Joanne.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, June 23, 2025, from 10am to 11am at the Slabinski Sucharski Funeral Home (2614 Orthodox St, Philadelphia, PA -- parking on premises). Services will begin at 11am, and inurnment will be at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Philadelphia.
