Joseph M. Gunkel, III

October 5, 1984 ~ July 12, 2026

Joe passed away at the age of 41 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was a beloved son who was predeceased by his mother, Colleen (née Sommerville); his grandparents, Joseph and Katherine Gunkel; and William and Mary Sommerville. Joe is survived by his devoted father, Joseph, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and neighbors.

Joseph was born in Philadelphia, PA, and spent his formative years in Cinnaminson, NJ. He was a 2005 graduate of B.C.S.S.S.D., as well as a charter member of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 821. His interests were varied. He was a railroad enthusiast, also known as a railfan. Joe enjoyed walking the trails of the South Jersey park system. He loved watching sports and his DVDs. He most definitely also liked to eat!

While Joseph’s time here on Earth was cut short, he would like you to know he enjoyed and was loved during the time he was here.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Wednesday evening, July 22, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Slabinski Sucharski Funeral Home, 2614 Orthodox St., Philadelphia, PA 19137 (parking on premises). His evening service will begin at 7:45 p.m. An additional viewing will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:50 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment and committal services will be held promptly at 10:00 a.m. at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd., Newtown, PA 18940.
