James M. Fyke, 72, passed away on April 29, 2026. Son of the late Edward and Catherine Fyke. Beloved husband of Joan Fyke (née Szymanek). Loving father of James E. Fyke (Abbie), Joelle Fyke, Michael J. Fyke (Megan), and the late Nicole (Patrick). Dear grandfather of Gwyneth, Edith, Aniyah, Sydney, Arianna, Avery, and Cameron. Brother of Edward Fyke (Betty Ann), Richard Fyke (Sue), and Stephen Fyke.
Jim found his greatest joy in spending time with those he loved, especially his cherished granddaughters, who were the center of his world. He rarely missed an opportunity to support them at their sporting events and took pride in being their biggest fan. More than anything, he loved making them laugh, teasing them, and finding ways to scare them just enough to hear their delighted screams and eventual laughter. Jim treasured time with family and enjoyed meeting friends at Maggie’s, The Ashburner, and Originals, where good conversation and companionship were always part of his visits. A devoted Philadelphia sports fan, Jim loved cheering on and complaining about the Phillies, Flyers, Sixers, and Eagles, following his teams with composed passion through every season.
Jim was a solid man, a good brother, husband, father, grandfather, coworker, and friend. Thoughtful and wise, others relied on his counsel and opinion, which he only gave when asked. He could be counted upon and relied on. Above all, Jim will be remembered for his love, humor, generosity, and the countless ways he showed up for the people he cared about. His family, friends, and especially his granddaughters will carry his memory forward with love and gratitude.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing and funeral on Saturday, May 2, 2026, beginning at 9:30 AM at St. Timothy’s Church, 3001 Levick St., Philadelphia, PA 19149. Funeral Mass 10:30 AM. Further arrangements will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Susan G. Komen or the American Cancer Society to support research for the prevention and cure of breast cancer.
