Eleanor B. Greco (nee Holp), 89, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on May 9, 2024 peacefully at Chestnut Hill Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Michael V. Greco for 60 years and the devoted mother to Eileen (Thomas), Michael, Janet (John), and Stephen (Barbara); grandmother to Melissa (Jon), Stephen, Kimberly (Louis), Nicholas (Dana), Leanne, Thomas, Michael, and Brianna (Joshua); great grandmother to Jaxson and Julia; Louis Jr, Logan, Lincoln, and Lennox; Nicholas Jr. and Mason. Loving aunt to Joanne. She was preceded in death by her 2 sisters, Julia and Helene, 2 brothers, Stephen and Joseph, and niece, Joyce.
Eleanor grew up in the St. Boniface parish in Philadelphia and attended Hallahan Catholic Girls High School. Upon graduation her first job was at Bell Telephone. Later, she worked at the Sears warehouse on the boulevard for many years.
She was feisty, strong-willed, and quick witted and loved a good laugh. Sitcoms were a favorite and she’d find joy in recording Seinfeld episodes on VHS tapes. She also liked traveling. Her favorite place to go was down the shore. She would look forward to sitting on the boardwalk to people watch. She enjoyed walking and would be ready to spend time outdoors at a moment’s notice. You would likely find her at the nearest bus stop making her routine trip to the mall.
Most of all she enjoyed cooking, especially for family. What an amazing and loving mom, mom-mom and great grandmom. She loved her family unconditionally. Her loving ways were always obvious at any birthday or holiday get together. She was happy to be the host, mostly the cook, to prepare holiday meals and our favorite birthday meals - which never let us down! These special events and times will surely be missed, but not as missed as she will be! She will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
Family and friends are invited to Eleanor’s viewing and funeral Thursday, May 16, 2024 at St. Ambrose Church, 401 E Roosevelt Blvd, Philadelphia, PA 19120. Her viewing will take place at 9:30am followed by her funeral mass at 11:00am. Interment will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
