Dolores T. Volz

October 20, 1936 - October 20, 2025 (89 Years Old) – Dolores T. Volz, Age 89, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully at Lansdale Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late William J. Volz, with whom she shared 51 wonderful years of marriage. Devoted and loving mother to Linda (Jim) Johnson, Bill (Kate) Volz, loving guardian of her nephew John (Denise) Wackes, and niece Beatrice. Treasured Nan to Tom, Luke, Max, Keira & Anna. Cherished sister of Alan Cartacki (the late Dolores), and Jane Kane (the late Stephen). Sister-in-law to Pauline Miller, Rita Veil, John Volz, Sharon Anglim and the late Helen Volz, Joan Wackes, Clara Barr, Marie Matthews, Dorothy Wackes and Jean Burns. She will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews and lifelong friends and neighbors.Dolores was born to Alfred and Emma (Black) Cartacki, raised in the Fishtown and Northwood sections of Philadelphia. She was a proud alumnus of Frankford High School. After graduation she went to work at Philadelphia Savings Fund Society (PSFS), later Mellon Bank, and Citizens Bank. Dolores met the love of her life, Bill, and they settled in her family home in Northwood for the remainder of their marriage. They would go on to raise two children and one nephew while being involved in their community. Dolores was Block Captain of the 1000 block of Harrison Street for nearly 40 years. She was blessed to live on the same street as her sister Jane and her family, cementing their close-knit bond. She was active with many neighborhood organizations, including Simpson Athletic Association, and H.R. Edmunds and Frankford High School Home and School.

Dolores was a loving mother and Aunt, her home was her showcase, she loved to host holidays and family dinners. She cherished her role as “Nan” later in life, enjoying time spent with her five grandchildren. She made the most of her free time in retirement by dining out and traveling on cruises all over with Bill.Dolores and Bill were dedicated to helping others, spending the last 25 years volunteering at American Legion Post 821 in Bridesburg — a commitment that included Dolores serving as President of the Women’s Auxiliary for part of that time. She found her calling there, where she organized fundraisers, honored fallen veterans at funerals, and visited the Delaware Valley Veterans Home. Her involvement at the Post, alongside Bill, expanded their circle of friends and gave them both a deep sense of purpose in their later years.Funeral service will be on Thursday, October 30th.
