Alexander John Marek

Alexander John Marek March 11, 1935 to June 21, 2019 Born in Philadelphia on March 11, 1935, Alexander (Al) was the 11th of 12 first generation children of parents who had migrated from their native Poland. Al graduated from Northeast Catholic High School in 1953 and shortly thereafter joined the Army to serve his country. Prior to being deployed overseas, Al married the love of his life, Corinne (Binker), with whom he would share his life with for the next 64 years. In addition to Corinne, Al leaves behind their two sons, Kenneth and Charles, their wives Mary and Deanna, and 5 grandchildren Charles, Colleen, Kelsey, Alexandra and Jessica. After his military service, Al took advantage of the GI Bill and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from LaSalle University. During this time, Al also began his career with the Department of Defense. Al worked for the DoD for the next 40 years, eventually rising to the position of Contract Specialist. Al was proud of both his military and civilian service to his country and the life it had afforded him. He often stated with a sense of humor that he "never missed a paycheck in 42+ years." In reality, what he was proud of was the stability his federal career provided to his family. Apart from a minor addiction to the New York Times Crossword puzzle and a penchant for an occasional card game, Al's primary concern was focused on spending time with and helping family and friends. He looked forward to family gatherings and vacations. When the grandchildren began to arrive, he cherished the opportunities to experience fatherhood again from a different angle. A tinkerer of sorts it was not unusual to find Al engaged in some activity that was focused on helping others. He was at times a mover, painter, wallpaper hanger, handyman, landscaper, furniture refinisher, limo driver, banker, advisor and caregiver. Never flashy, always humble, kind and humorous. Al lived by the motto that "charity began at home" and sought to live a life full of charity. In his final years the Parkinson's Disease robbed Al of many of his abilities, but he never lost his desire to be with family or to assist in any manner he could. He maintained his wry sense of humor even while facing the indignities of his illness. Our family lost it's anchor this week and are adrift without him. We are grateful for the time we had with you, sadden by your passing and happy that you are no longer in pain. We miss you greatly and hope you are resting in peace. Military Honor Services will be conducted at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown Pa. 18940 on July 2, 2019. Services will begin promptly at 10:30AM. (Please meet at the main office and funeral assembling area by 10:15 AM precisely if you plan on attending the service. This area is located inside the cemetery gates).
